For my first artifact I decided to start from the very beginning – from examining the design concept. There are billions sites in the web but in the beginning(in 80′s) they didn’t had any rules or principles on building them, just the idea to share something with others. So that the main core of the web design that we see today were developed on the audience basis and the technology grow.
Nowadays every web site follows certain rules to get most from the web site so that their audience could freely use every part of it. All of these rules were created quite a long time ago but they are still developed with all the new technology upgrades.
From my recent research I found out that there are thousands of web design concepts for any business or any purposes, but if you look closely all they don’t have so much differences because every concept mainly depends on an initial idea of the web site and on the information that it will store. Therefore, all of those web sites that are on the web, they all use only several foundation concepts and then, from them they add some small changes in order to add all the necessary information on the web site.
I picked up the most popular web design concepts that are right now on the web:
Still, because of the limitations that web designers/developers have right now they cannot go beyond some of the principles that were created back in the 80′s (in my opinion all the new techniques needed only for the entertainment web sites, that are still use the flash plugin to condensate the lack of the possibilities in HTML5 on this point). In my opinion it is the matter of time when interactive web sites will be something
Good content is the most important aspect of successful web site design. To support your content, you need the right combination of technology and graphics. In that sense web site design is both an art and a science. It has to be functional and work correctly, but should also be appealing to the eye.
For the past five months our task was to interpret a script in own way and create a 3 minute animation displaying this interpretation. I choose the original Matrix Dojo scene with my own beginning and ending. The storyline based in Arcade game centre where the Neo and Morpheus are just computer geeks. They are fighting for a leadership in a virtual reality computer game called “Matrix”. At the end of the fight Neo will be amazed by the special effects and quality of the game.
The mine idea was to create the difference in a real time life of the heroes between the virtual game, so I created 4 characters (two for each scene) and tried to make them look similar to their opposite sides by adding small things from their clothes or parts from their faces. In addition I tried to use different textures & lightning for the environments to make the contrast between the game and the real world even stronger.
Through the project I gained a lot for useful knowledge through solving issues such as character rigging, skin modifier, character cloning, rendering scenes with more than 12 different camera shots, post production etc. But my biggest issue/mistake was time management. Despite the fact that I was working on this project since the very beginning and I was putting most of my time in it, I was still sitting till the last hours finish the final work. So now I know that I need to reconsider the priorities for the bigger projects such as this one.
To sum up, I am quite happy with the outcome but I know that I could do better in aspects as animation, cameras and environment modeling, if only I had manage the time properly. Keeping in mind that I’m a student who is just learning, it is common that I am making mistakes during the learning process. But still this is not an excuse to always making the work not in the full strength.
In addition, after this project I have made quite long list of what to do/learn during the summer, so hopefully I will try to learn all of it on my work placement or just in my spare time.
